CHURCH COUNCIL LEADERS 2013

THE ROLE OF CHURCH COUNCIL LEADERS

Every Christian is given at least one gift by God to equip and enable the church to fulfil Christ’s mission to make disciples. There are many equally important and valued gifts and ministry roles, both in leadership and service. Within the context of the diversity of gifts, some members of the church are given special gifts for oversight, including wisdom and discernment.

In the Adare Uniting Church we have decided to call those elected to Church Council LEADERS.

Adare Uniting Church needs God’s chosen Leaders to have spiritual oversight of the church as we go forward to bring people to Jesus and to transform them into his passionate disciples.

“Spiritual oversight”, as exercised by Leaders, involves setting and monitoring the church’s overall direction, through prayer and discernment.

LEADERS, along with the Minister, form the Church Council are the “custodian” of the church’s core values and directions, and promote the vision and support the mission of the church.

Leaders are expected to express their gifts of wisdom and discernment and their ability to express these in a humble, caring and unselfish manner. They need to be will be people ready to accept responsibility and ready to be servants of all. They will be people on whom God’s Spirit rests as they exercise effective oversight and attend to property, finance and ministry matters. They will be people in whose hands others feel secure and in whose hands the direction of the Church will be safe, dynamic and imaginative. Leaders are people who model the Christian life in their daily living and who exemplify the core values and beliefs upon which Adare Uniting Church is founded. They are elected to office for 1-5 years by the congregation.
